Taian's tokonoma illustrates many interesting innovations which make the two-mat area seem larger. The posts that support the building are covered with plaster. The inability to see the posts and the rounded corners of the toko makes the area seems deeper. The tokonoma especially catches the guest's attention because of it is placed directly in front of the nijiriguchi.
