Airport Transportation
Taxi fares cost $45 (from JFK) or $35 (from La Guardia). Taking the subway (JFK) and bus (La Guradia) is easy and costs only $2. To take the subway or bus, follow these directions:

JFK to CU by subway: The ride takes over an hour. Take the airport shuttle bus (make sure it is to Subway) to the subway station (#A Train). Buy a Metro Card (for $10, you'll get 5 rides + 1 for free. You may just buy a card for just one ride $2). Transfer at 59 Street to # 1 or # 9 Train by following the signs in the station. (Do not get out!). Get on the 1 or 9 Train and get off at 116 Street Broadway (Columbia University). There you are at the entrance of CU! Ask the security guard where Carman Hall is, or follow the directions below.

LaGuardia to CU by bus: When you get out of La Guardia Airport, you will see a bus stop right in front. Make sure it is M60. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes and the ride is about 35-40 minutes. When you get on the bus, tell the driver you are going to Columbia University and ask him/her to let you know when you reach your stop (117 Street and Broadway). The main entrance to Columbia is at 116th Street.

Directions to Carman Hall

When you get off the train or bus, you will see the Columbia's main entrance at 116 Street. Get to the entrance side of the street and go straight to the corner of 114 Street (about 1 minute). The tall building at the corner is Carman Hall. You can enter from the side entrance on 114 Street.

Parking
Columbia's main campus is located between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave., 114 and 120 streets. There is some off-street parking around Columbia area (free on streets, meters on Broadway and Amsterdam Ave.). There is also a fee-based 24-hour parking lot on 114 Street (close to Amsterdam Ave). The fee is $30 per day.

Workshop sign-ups
Instead of doing the workshop signup by email, we'll do it when you pick up your package at the registration table.

Check in
Basically, you can check in any time during the day on Thursday May 27. From 1:00 pm, we will have a registration table in the lobby of Carman Hall (where you are going to stay). You will sign in, pick up your conference package and name badge, sign up for the workshop sessions, and be assigned a room.

Computer Testing (Thursday evening)
If you need to test your presentation, please let us know when you pick up your conference package. We may be able to do it right away at the registration table, or we will take you to our conference site (7-10 pm) .

Restaurants
It is said that in Manhattan there is a Chinese restaurant on every block! It is an exaggeration, but finding a decent Chinese restaurant within walking distance is not hard. There is one on the corner of 110 Street and Broadway (called Dynasty), where you can find good Sichuan cuisine as well as "regular" Chinese food. Or if you prefer Shanghai flavor, you may try Columbia Cottage on the corner of 111 Street and Amsterdam. There are many other restaurants around Columbia (Japanese, Korean, Italian, Greek etc.)

Reception on Thursday (May 27, 8-10 pm, Carman Lounge in the basement) This is basically an informal party hosted by the Columbia Chinese Program to welcome the conference participants and to provide participants an opportunity to meet one another. Refreshments and snacks will be served. You can come in any time between 8 and 10 pm, and formal attire is not necessary.

If you need a baby-sitter during the event, please let us know.
