Readings:

Braudy and Cohen, Film Theory and Criticism; Bordwell and
Thompson, Film Art: An Introduction, Cook, A History of Narrative
Film, and Sharff, Elements of Cinema. Bordwell and Thompson should
be read by week 4. Reading assignments in the other three books follow.
There are mandatory discussion sections for all undergraduates. The
teaching assistants will organize them. These sections will have separate
assignments from those presented here.
