LANGUAGE: FRENCH
LEVEL: FRENCH 1

OBJECTIVES:

1. Read a weather map of France.
2. Explain the weather in certain cities and regions of France.

MATERIALS:

1. Computer with access to the World Wide Web.
2. Student worksheet.

PROCEDURE:

1. Ask the students to describe the weather and temperature in the city, state, and/or country in which they live during the 4 seasons.

2. Ask the students what they think the weather and temperature are like in certain regions of France during the same seasons.

3. Have the students go to:

http://www.meteo.fr/meteonet/

4. Have students note what the weather and temperature will be in the following cities for tomorrow and the next day:

a. Paris
b. Rennes
c. Lille

5. Have students record the weather and temperature for 2 cities from 2 regions on their chart.

6. Have the students tell one other student tomorrow's weather and temperature from the information on their chart. Other students record the information on their table.

NOTE: refer to "légende et symbole" at the bottom of the web page for symbol explanations.

EXTENSION:

Students will:

1. Create a crossword puzzle and/or wordsearch. Include seasons, weather vocabulary, months, and clothing.

2. Prepare a page for a newspaper in which they give the weather and temperature for 3 cities from any region for 5 days. Some information will come from oral exchange with classmates. Don't forget to use the weather symbols.

3. Prepare to do a weather newscast based on #2. Students will need to have large weather props.
