Objectives:
- Read a weather forecast on the internet
and be able to recognize what the weather is like in a certain
area
- Recognize the type of information that
is available to students at the website and determine what type
of weather a certain city is experiencing
- Do research in a group about a city of
the student's choice and be able to present that information
in class.
Materials:
- Computer with access to the World Wide
Web
- Monitor to connect to laptop to show a
particular website
- Vocabulary lists with pictures reviewing
what the weather is like in a certain region in Germany.
- Internet activity Handout
Procedure:
- Review Weather vocabulary from previous
lesson. Pass out review vocabulary.
- Go to the website using overhead monitor
connected to computer http://donnerwetter.de/meldungen/region.mv?c+03+Aurich,
which shows the current weather conditions in various cities
located in East Freesia.
- Discuss as a class what type of weather
they can see at this site and what the temperature is. Talk about
where it is located and where our sister school is located.
- Students break up into groups and go to
computers. They need to find the following website: http://donnerwetter.de/region/suchort.mv?search=Aurich
- Students now need to scan the website
and list the type of information they can find (in German) on
this particular web page.
- Now have students answer the questions
relating to Aurich, which they can find on their Internet activity
sheet.
- Students are then to find three other
cities located in three different regions in Germany, by doing
a city search. They are then to answer the questions on their
activity sheet to answer the questions on the information found
at those websites.
- Students could then choose one city in
which they will present a weather forecast for the class as a
weather news team, explaining current weather conditions, and
the forecast for the next four days.
For an additional activity, students can
find out what the weather conditions are like for gardening and
include that in their weather forecast.
