This
course has been designed as part of the core curriculum of Columbia College.
It also provides a general introduction to interdisciplinary African studies,
embracing aspects of history, archaeology, anthropology, literature, and
art history. The material is arranged in clusters, the main geopolitical
foci being Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Mali. Students are expected to develop
a critical understanding of visual as well as textual sources. To that end,
sections will meet together for a special visual/discussion hour, once a
week. |
