  • Attendance is mandatory. College policy states that students who accumulate more than four unexcused absences may be dropped from the course. Additionally, more than four unexcused absences will reduce your grade. Excused absences include religious observances and medical emergencies. If you know you will miss class, you should email me beforehand.
  • Study questions will be posted on the Cubboard to guide your reading. You are expected to have read the assignment and reflected upon the questions before class.
  • A question requiring written response will be posted on the web for each reading assignment. Over the course of the semester, three responses must be turned in before the midterm and two after the midterm. Responses should be between 250 and 300 words long (3/4 - 1 page). While they will not be graded individually, they do count collectively. You must hand in your responses at the beginning of class. No late response papers will be accepted.
  • Three essays are due during the semester. Topics and essay guidelines will be distributed at least a week beforehand. Essays should be from 1500 to 2000 words (5 - 7 pages). Late papers will be penalized a third of a letter grade each postponed day.
  • There will be no extensions for exams without prior consent.
