	Recently World Workshop on Periodontics adopted a working definition of the term risk factor: – An environmental, behavioral, or biologic factor – confirmed by temporal sequence – usually in longitudinal studies – if  present, directly increases probability of disease occurring – and, if absent or removed, reduces the probability n Risk factors part of the causal chain – Or expose host to the causal chain
