Petechiae and Purpura
Petechiae - small pinpoint submucosal or
subcutaneous hemorrhages.
Purpura or ecchymoses present as larger
collections of blood.
Usually seen in patients with severe bleeding
disorders or coagulopathies, leukemia etc.
Initially bright red in color, change to a bluish-
brown hue with time as the extravasated
blood is metabolized.
