http://sakai.cc.columbia.
CourseWorks@Columbia is the University’s
course management system. Most of your courses will have active course
websites that you can access through CourseWorks. To login to
CourseWorks you will need your University Network ID (UNI) and password.
Your UNI is the first part of your Columbia University email address,
e.g. abc2005. To activate your UNI go to http://uni.columbia.edu.

The curriculum map is a graphical representation of the CDM’s curriculum with links to the all course websites in the dental program.

Many of your courses will be recorded and made available to you via podcasting. The simplest way to subscribe to podcasts is to use iTunes, but you can choose to listen to podcasts using a Web browser or other RSS feed aggregator. Once subscribed in iTunes, you can easily access any episode from the feed or move the podcast episodes to your mobile device. Access with UNI and password.

The Image Annotation Tool (IAT) is
Web-based application for annotating images. The IAT has two main functions,
one is to organize and categorize course-related images into collections
and the other is to facilitate adding annotations to images. Every user
is also provided with a personal library where images can be uploaded.
http://vital.ccnmtl.columbia.
VITAL is a video-based digital teaching
and learning environment, for use in clinical practice courses. The
environment allows students to view a digital video library of observations
and/or clinical interviews and to construct multimedia essays incorporating
video references into texts. VITAL stores all student work, allowing
for sharing and peer review.

Instead of physical microscopes you will be using virtual microscopy in the SBPMD Histology laboratory section. The online lab manual provides access to the virtual slides. Each topic is briefly introduced, and then there is a description of each specimen followed by a link to the slide.
You are advised to register your laptop for wired access so you are not all trying to access the slides on the wireless network. To register, go to this website http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/it/getting_started/resnet.html#forms, or visit the Help Desk on Hammer 2nd Floor. To access the virtual slides from an off-campus location, you will need to install and run the Virtual Private Network (VPN). The VPN provides access to restricted sites on the campus network. Here's the link to the VPN information: http://www.cubhis.org/getting_started/vpn.html.
For assistance or to report an error with any of these projects email Michelle V. Hall (mhall@columbia.edu) or Nitin Gumaste (nitin@ccnmtl.columbia.edu).
