BEST BEGINNINGS

Best Beginnings is a home-based primary prevention program designed to prevent child abuse and neglect, support young families, prepare children for school, and assure healthy and productive citizens. The program targets children from infancy to five years of age in one of the most impoverished and underserved neighborhoods in New York City - the Washington Heights community. Their goal is to prevent the abuse and neglect of children by teaching parental skills, by offering support, guidance and information to families, and by providing comprehensive health care based on careful assessment of need. This is all achieved through regular home visitation - a key element of the program.
