The Home Visit Program introduces pediatric residents to a home visit experience. This program is designed to be an easily replicated educational tool, which encourages and strengthens the resident's commitment to practice medicine professionally, humanely, empathetically and compassionately. Home Visit training at the resident level is intended to enhance:
- Resident awareness of the public health and personal issues facing their patients
- The medical care of their own continuity patients during their three years of residency
- The doctor-patient relationship with their continuity patients
- Teaching that emphasizes the humanistic and compassionate aspects of doctoring
- The use of home visits in their future practice of medicine
