#90, 91 or 92 Pig Fetuses

These slides are three stages in which you can study the developing spinal cord. (Most slide boxes do not have all three slides.) Find the neural tube and examine the ventricular zone (future ependymal layer lining the central canal). Mitotic activity occurs within this layer during embryonic and fetal development, and both neuronal and glial cells are derived from that layer. It has recently been shown that this process continues in adult life.
