P6400 Podcasting Instructions

Software

You will need iTunes to subscribe to the podcast. You can choose to listen to your podcast lectures on your PC/Mac using this software or you can set your iPod preferences to copy your podcasts from iTunes to your iPod. If you use another type of mp3 player or podcasting software, follow the manual subscribe instructions below.

If you do not have iTunes or it needs updating, download the free software here:

Subscribing

Automatically

Click here to subscribe to the P6400 podcast.

This link should launch an “External Protocol Request” box. At the bottom of this box, check the option which says “Remember this for all links of this type”. Then click on the “Launch Application” button. This should be the only time you will have to do this.

To see all the episodes, click on the arrow next to the podcast title so that it points downwards.

Manually

In iTunes, click on the "Podcasts" menu item on the left side under "Library", then on the top menu, go to "Advanced" and choose "Subscribe to Podcast." In the window, paste the web address below.

http://www.ccnmtl.columbia.edu/broadcast/hs/pubhealth/p6400/podcast.xml

The feed will now appear in the podcasts main window of your iTunes. Right-click on the feed and choose "Update Podcast" to get the latest podcast lecture, or click the “Refresh” button in the lower right corner of the “Podcasts” window. If you use another type of podcasting software you will also have to copy and paste the above link in the space provided by the software (please see your software help for more instructions).

Updating

At any time you can update podcasts manually if you right-click on the feed and choose "Update Podcast" or click the “Refresh” button in the lower right corner of the “Podcasts” window to update all podcasts.

You can also choose how often you want iTunes to update your podcasts and which files to download and which ones to keep. It is recommended that you set the "When new episodes are available" preference to "Download the most recent one" and set the "Keep" preference to "All episodes". If you don't keep all episodes the older ones will no longer be available when new ones are downloaded.
