ATSDR: Hazardous Substances Emergency Events Surveillance
ATSDR is mandated under CERCLA to respond to chemical releases into the environment and has responded to chemical emergencies across the country for the last 20 years. Since the attacks of September 11, 2001 ATSDR has worked together with other federal agencies, state and local health departments and other organizations to respond to these events and to prepare for the possibility of new threats.
HSEES
is a project from ATSDR, that monitors the public health consequences
of releases of hazardous substances since 1990. Petroleum products are
not included in this report! Initially, only 5 states participated in
this program, presently there are 15 states that report this data to ATSDR.
