Recommended preparation: A solid background in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Physical properties of seawater, water masses and their distribution, sea-air interaction influence on the ocean structure, basic ocean circulation pattern, relation of diffusion and advection with respect to distribution of ocean properties, and introduction to ocean dynamics. There will be a mid-term, a final and a term paper. Both exams are designed to be completed in an hour. Each exam and the term paper will count equally towards your final grade. If registration is 6 or less, the paper will be presented in class (20 minutes) and in written form (about 10 pages); if <6 then the term paper will be presented only in written form. |
