Grading:
Though rewarding, Learning a new language is a difficult experience. Expect to be tired and frustrated sometimes. Your positive attitude, patience, and hard work will pay and make your learning experience more enjoyable. To make your learning experience both enjoyable and productive, please read carefully the guidelines below. These state what is expected of you and offer some advice. 1. Please come to class prepared. Class time should be devoted to practice.
This will make your learning more effective (for suggestions on how to
prepare, see Studying Tips). 2. Your regular attendance is required throughout the whole semester.
Unless it is a religious holiday or you have a doctors note, your
overall grade will diminish every time you miss class. You are responsible
for the lessons you miss. 3. Homework is due on the date specified on the syllabus. Late homework
is accepted until the Friday of the week it is due. It will be graded,
but receives no credit. Homework accounts for 30% of the final grade. 4. There will be a quiz every other week. Quizzes are designed to help
you keep up with the work. They therefore require that you review the
material regularly. 5. You are required to use the tapes, CDs, or soundfiles. If you prefer
to use tapes, you can obtain copies from the Language Lab., 116B Lewisohn.
You provide the blank tapes and pay $ 1 duplicating fee per tape. 6. Work with your classmates inside and outside the classroom. My experience
has shown that students learn better in an environment full of respect
and cooperation. Do not hesitate to ask questions or make suggestions
you are partly responsible for the success of this class. 7. Use all resources available (Internet, radio and TV programs, concerts,
movies, tapes and CDs) to enrich your learning experience (see List
of Resource for Students of Arabic).
