{302,1}

jin ke liye apne to yuu;N jaan nikalte hai;N
us raah me;N ve jaise anjaan nikalte hai;N

1) for those whose own lives depart/'emerge' {like this / casually}
2) in that road they depart/'emerge' as if unknown/unknowing

Notes:

S. R. Faruqi:

In the opening-verse there's nothing special. On rhymes like jaan and anjaan , see

{291,1},

and

{293,1}.

But here we can also say that in the first line the meaning of jaan is 'spirit' and in the second line the meaning of jaan is 'knowing'; thus even though both words have the same appearance, the rhyme is correct because the meanings are not the same. The definition of 'repetition' [ii:taa] is that it occurs where the rhyme word 'and meaning' would be repeated. Here that situation does not exist; thus the 'fault' [((aib] of 'repetition' [ii:taa] too does not exist.

A delicate sort of pleasure is that jaan nikalnaa (for the life to depart or go) and in the second line nikalnaa (to emerge, go out) form a zila. In Mir's day, jaan was also masculine.
