"A GHAZNAVID MOULDED TURQUOISE GLAZED POTTERY TILE. AFGHANISTAN, 11TH/12TH CENTURY. The rectangular tile moulded under the glaze with a central cusped shouldered arch filled with palmettes, in a border of continuous kufic inscription between plain stripes, corner chipped, otherwise intact. 9½ x 7¼in. (24 x 18cm.)

Lot Notes: The inscription around the side is difficult to read. It does include the word ghafar ([May God] forgive) which makes it probable that this tile was intended as a tombstone."
