"A LADY PLAYING SITAR. Mughal India or Deccan, 1680-1700. Gouache heightened with gold on paper, the lady wearing gold brocade turban, jama and overskirt seated on the ground in a grassy meadow under a tree playing the sitar, mounted on card, verso with a ghazal of Jami in black nasta'liq against a ground of pink and gold foxes and floral meander, further verses in cartouches around the sides, mounted with blue borders flecked with gold, good condition. Folio 9 x 5¾in. (23 x 14.5cm.); miniature 7½ x 4¼in. (19 x 10.6cm.)."
