Don Carlo Gesualdo, Fifth Book of Madrigals, III. "Itene,
o miei sospiri" |
|
|
Itene, o miei sospiri |
Go, my sighs, |
Precipitate'I volo |
swiftly fly |
A lei che m'è cagion d'aspri martiri. |
to her who is the cause of my bitter torment. |
Ditele, per pietà, del mio gran duolo; |
Tell her, I beg you, of my great grief; |
C'ormai ella mi sia |
that, at last, she may |
Come bella ancor pia |
to her beauty yet match pity, |
Che l'amaro mio pianto |
and that my bitter tears |
Cangerò, lieto, in amoroso canto. |
I may joyfully exchange for songs of love. |
