Don Carlo Gesualdo, Fifth Book of Madrigals, III. "Itene, o miei sospiri"

Itene, o miei sospiri Go, my sighs,
Precipitate'I volo swiftly fly
A lei che m'è cagion d'aspri martiri. to her who is the cause of my bitter torment.
Ditele, per pietà, del mio gran duolo; Tell her, I beg you, of my great grief;
C'ormai ella mi sia that, at last, she may
Come bella ancor pia to her beauty yet match pity,
Che l'amaro mio pianto and that my bitter tears
Cangerò, lieto, in amoroso canto. I may joyfully exchange for songs of love.
