Paper Topic 5

There are some intriguing parallels between the stories in the patriarchal period and those in the time of the Judges. Since, presumably, people living in the time of the Judges told the stories about the patriarchs to each other, the way in which they told the stories may have been affected by their own assumptions about the meaning of life. Compare one of the two following examples to see if the parallels are actual or only apparent:

1. Genesis 19: Lot and the Sodomites; Lot's daughters
   Judges 19: The Levite's concubine and the Benjaminites.
   
2. Genesis 22: The binding of Isaac
   Judges 11:29ff: The Sacrifice of Jephthah's Daughter11
   Pick any of the passages mentioned in 1 or 2 above and tell me what they mean.

Remember that the Bible is your principal source of evidence. Read it carefully. Refer to it in your arguments. Quote it to establish your opinion!
