Julie Payne is a continuing SIPA student concentrating in International Media and Communications. She grew up in the land of
John Candy,
Tim Horton's donuts and long vowels, only to migrate south to Chicago where her family continues to live. With the intent to explore the art of words, Julie studied English and Communication at
Tulane University and later explored the intricacies of international communication as a student on
Semester at Sea.
Following her graduation in 2000, Julie taught English as a second language to 800 junior high schoolers in Sendai, Japan as a member of the
JET Programme. Her fascination for the country stuck even after she returned to the United States two years later. She works for a Japanese marketing firm in New York, heading their marketing and online editorial content for their latest
start-up venture
