About
Tonina Dumic is a second-year MPA student, focusing her studies on environmental policy, and economic and political development.
She grew up in Belgrade, Yugoslavia; lived in Yakima, WA; Toronto, Canada; Bulgaria, Sofia; and presently, NYC.

Here she explains the origins of her interest in media:
"The calamities in my homeland, happened for many complex reasons, all stemming from a simple one: instead of knowledge and righteousness, ignorance and malevolence prevailed. I found myself in an environment where the recent past has been erased, in which there is no longer any stable system of common reference, public figures with any morals, reliable media, critical dialogue, in community where all the values have been turned inside out. Independent media was suppressed, thoughts more and more controlled, entire nation was becoming demonized. It was then that for the first time in my life I realized the strong power media has on individuals and I experienced its great abuse."

Some quotes by the man who left a mark in my life, **Marshall McLuhan**:
- We look at the present through a rear-view mirror. We march backwards into the future.
- Today each of us lives several hundred years in a decade.
