This seminar will feature a mix of lectures and class-time discussion of weekly reading assignments. Class participation will be important. A semester-long lack of participation will be noted and count against your grade. Over the course of the semester, you will be required to write three essays from a choice of essay questions provided with some of the social science segments. Each essay should be 5 to 8 pages long and double spaced. In addition, there will be periodic assignments in research methods. In one segment, economics, you will have weekly written homework assignments. All books for the course should be available from Labyrinth Book Store, and you will be given handouts of articles and chapters to read. It is suggested that you read the relevant chapters from the textbook to supplement the class readings for each section. |
