One jaw clamps down on an arm, another finds the man's throat before he has a the chance to scream. The third jaw grabs a thigh, and the first lets go of the arm and switches to mid-torso for support. Without breaking stride, Bongo drags the man into the trees and disappears with incredible speed. It all happens so quickly, Sarah isn't sure it happened at all.
But she is sure she's in trouble. How will she explain this to Bonnie? Sarah's mind is already considering and recjecting potential ideas, an automatic reaction.
But that woman, she...
The woman looks to her right, where the man had been standing seconds earlier. Her face bears the disoriented expression of someone who has just come out of a daydream to find herself in an unfamiliar place. She pauses, looks down the path at her feet, then slowly begins walking down the hill again.
Something warm and wet lands on Sarah's foot and rolls off. It is Squid, with the filthiest tennis ball he has yet to fish out of the bushes.
Sarah cries for about 10 minutes.
