Table of number of images required for various lenses
 
Below is a table of the number of exposures (photographs) needed to get at least 50% overlap for various lenses for a complete 360 degree panorama. This assumes the use of 35mm film, and the camera in a Portrait orientation (horizontal dimension is shorter than vertical dimension).
