CRCA COACHES
- Jose Alcala- Jose Alcala is a USCF Category I Coach. He
developed as a racer in the famed Wolverine Sports Club and has been a ride
leader at the Walden School of Cycling. He has also been a USCF Regional
Coaching Coordinator, coached US national teams in international
competition and is head coach of the USA Disabled Sports Cycling Team.

- Norman Banks - Norman Banks received coaching training at the US
Olympic Training Center in the late 1980s and has been coaching cyclists
and tri- and duathletes full-time since 1989. He has developed riders from
beginners to the state champions. His greatest strength is in designing
personalized conditioning programs for each athlete's needs. 718/645.3275
- John Campo - John Campo began racing on the track several
decades ago (!), is a multiple district championship medalist and has raced
successfully on the national level. He has promoted major cycling races and
coached many accomplished road and track racers over the years.

- Catherine Chatham - Catherine Chatham started racing with CRCA
and progressed to national-level success with World Team and
CRCA/Screaming Yellow Zonkers. She has been a Special Interest Groups
Instructor for the NY Cycle Club, taking riders from a beginning level to
being capable of riding 100 miles or more, fast with good technique.

- John Eustice - John Eustice, two time US Pro Road Champion, has
raced at the highest levels in Europe, including the Tours of Spain and
Italy, major classics and the World Championships, and was a teammate of
Sean Kelly, one of the top pros of all time. He was instrumental in
Roberto Gaggioli's move to the US, and has been a team director at the
Tour DuPont. 212/645.3275.
COACHING/TRAINING SCHEDULE
Key:
RIDER RESPONSIBILITIES IN CRCA TRAINING SESSIONS
Each rider's responsibilities prior to participation in CRCA training
sessions include:
- Obtaining a physical check-up and doctors approval before participating
in any exercise program.
- Notifying the coach of any special medical conditions (eg high blood
pressure, heart condition, tendency to seizures, diabetes, ECT).
- Having a qualified and reputable bicycle repair shop check the safety
of your bike.
- Having his/her helmet checked for safety and proper fit. Helmets are
mandatory at all CRCA training sessions.
- Inspecting the quick release skewers on both wheels to be sure they are
in the closed position and the wheels are secure- Inspecting the bike's
tires periodically for cuts or deep gashes in the tread and sidewalls.
- For those with step-in pedals, inspecting the cleats for excessive wear
and having new cleats installed if necessary.
- Taking whatever steps necessary to ensure the bicycle, helmet, shoes
and cleats work safely.
Riders will be asked to sign a release form and a participation
agreement prior to every session they attend and to present a valid CRCA
membership card and USCF license.
Remember, the coach cannot protect you from all the risks in cycling. As an
athlete you musk know, understand and appreciate all the risks INHERENT in
the sport of cycling to be able to assume them. Remember when working out
to listen and follow the coaches' safety instructions and warnings. Also,
don't be shy about having instructions for a drill or segment of a workout
repeated if the instructions are not clear to you.
