Anisa Khadem Nwachuku |

Anisa Khadem Nwachuku is a Ph.D. candidate in Sustainable Development with a concentration in Public Health at Columbia University’s Earth Institute. She is also a National Science Foundation IGERT fellow in International Development and Globalization. Her research seeks to examine the relationship between vulnerability and sustainability particularly as it relates to health equity, resource management and materialism. Her Master's research examined the political dimensions of health equity in Mozambique, and she later conducted a human resources for health costing for Mozambique with Results for Development. During her studies, she has continued to produce research in the area of health equity for UNICEF and the World Health Organization. Anisa's broader interests include social cohesion/capital and highly-divided societies, tropical IDs and the experience of disease in marginalized populations, capabilities and equity-based development models, moral leadership and development as a transformative process, the commercial sex industry, and assessing the true social impact of maternal mortality. |

Anisa has conducted policy research for the World Health Organization, Results for Development, UNICEF, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, The Carter Center, the State Department, and the Program of African Studies at Northwestern University. She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University in International Development Policy. |
