Calamba, Laguna is the birthplace of Dr. Jose Rizal, an ophthalmologist, he is the national hero of the Philippines. The year 1997 is his centennial anniversary, coincidentally it is also the centennial anniversary of the  American Academy of Ophthalmology’s 100 years of excellence in eye care.
