1) Write a narrative of the development of globalization from 1400 to 1820.
2) What are the conditions of the early modern world (c. 1400-1800) that facilitated non-state violence? What role did this violence play in the processes of early modern globalization?
3) What is at stake in the debate between ORourke/Williamson and Flynn/Giráldez on the beginning of globalization? What difference, if any, might it make to accept one starting point over another in understanding the processes and implications of contemporary globalization?
