Today is a good day to export unrestricted cryptographic source code.

I am now an exporter. You can be too! First, decide where you are going to put your unrestricted source code; then notify the BXA via email. That's all there is to it, but you had better not take my word for it, since I am *not* a lawyer. Instead, go to the encryption pages at the BXA site and see for yourself.

The new interim crypto regulations are at http://www.epic.org/crypto/export_controls/regs_1_00.html .

You should send your email notification of exports NOT to crypt@bxa.doc.gov but instead to exports@crypto.com which will mail to crypt@bxa.doc.gov but will also append to http://www.crypto.com/exports/mail.txt so that we can all find that good crypto code being exported. Thanks to Matt Blaze for making this available.

I sent mail to the BXA about exporting source code under the regs and got this response.

Please educate yourself about DeCSS, DVDs, the MPA, the EFF, opendvd.org, and 2600.com. Start by going to some web sites:

opendvd.org is a great place to get oriented.

The EFF has the relevant legal documents.

John Young's crypto site has the original pleadings by the DVDCCA.

Copyleft.net is selling T-shirts to support the EFF's legal work.

2600 has documents involving the case against them in New York.
