Staré Město - Old Town

Founded in 1234, Staré Město was the first of Prague's original five towns. It was fortified by a thick stone wall and surrounded by a hazardous moat. Nové Město (New Town) was founded in 1348 which made the wall unnecessary. Over the next century the wall came down and the semi-circular moat was filled in and covered by three streets: Národní, Na Příkopě (Moat Street), and Revoluční.
