Welcome! This is the new home page for Troop 520 of the Greater New York Council. Right now the pages for "Scouting" and "Fun Stuff" have not even been started. This site will be changing rapidly, and hopefully there will be lots of useful content added. Check the date last modified below to see if the site has made any major changes. Thank you for your patience.
ADVANCEMENT Advancement is an important part of any Boy Scout troop. Due to a large number of young scouts in the troop this year, we will focus on basic scout skills and advancement more than usual this year. In addition to teaching basic scout skills to younger scouts for rank advancement, however, Troop 520 will again offer merit badges and some high adventure activities in conjunction with the monthly program. For example last year we taught shotgun shooting merit badge and then went sheet shooting at the Thunder Mountain Shooting Club for an activity. Four scouts earned the merit badge, and all scouts who attended the weekly meetings earned at least a partial merit badge. In March we will likewise teach Snow Sports merit badge in conjunction with our ski trip. The fall Court of Honor will be held September 19th at our third meeting. This is an especially important Court of Honor since many scouts have earned merit badges or rank during summer camp. Congratulations to all scouts for their many achievements this summer! RESOURCES Information in this section has been gathered from other places for your convenience. We are grateful to the sites from which this information was collected. Check out the links to these sites please. Coming soon.
Boy Scouting is available to boys ages 11 through 17 years old, or who have earned the Arrow of Light Award, and have completed the fifth grade. All eligible boys are welcome to attend one of our meetings and see what Boy Scouts is all about. For boys in the first through fifth grades (ages 7 to 10) look into Cub Scouting with Pack 520. We meet at the Broadway Presbyterian Church on the corner of 114th St. and Broadway (The entrance is on 114th St.). Meetings are Monday nights at 6:30 PM. Here's a map, courtesy of MapBlast. VOLUNTEER No boy scout troop could exist without adult leaders. We would like to thank all parents and volunteers for their participation and gladly welcome new volunteers.
