2004: Research Fellowship in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York, NY, USA.

In December 2003 I defended successfully my Doctoral Dissertation on the subject of "The role of ischemic preconditioning on spinal cord protection after descending thoracic aortic occlusion" 134 pp. I have 31 original publications in peer-reviewed journals, 25 published abstracts in peer-reviewed journals, 2 chapters in books, 58 oral and poster presentations in international meetings and 6 international awards. I have also served as an invited reviewer in 8 medical journals including The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Chest and Heart.
