
Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas,
Christia Mercer studied art history and then philosophy before receiving her
Ph.D. in philosophy from Princeton University in 1989. She has been at Columbia
University since 1991. Her main research interests are in the history of early
modern philosophy. She is North American editor of Archiv für Geschichte der
Philosophie and general editor of Oxford
Philosophical Concepts: A Philosophical and Historical Analysis of Major
Concepts in the History of Philosophy. She
received the Columbia College Great Teacher Award in 2008.
