Quota Management
What is PCD
- PCD stands for Page Count Daemon. PCD keeps track of a
database of how many pages each user has left.
Quotas
- There are two types of quotas, periodic and paid. A periodic
quota is a quota that gets renewed on a periodic basis and does
not accumulate between periods. A paid quota is one that a
user pays for and doesn't get wiped out between periods.
Who Gets A Quota?
- Periodic quotas can be granted based on unix group affiliation
or userid.
Resetting quotas
- Periodically (at Columbia we do it weekly) the system is
flushed and stats are compiled and archived.
Checking On A Quota
- PCD maintains a database of the current periods printing
transactions. These transactions can be retrieved by the user.
