Why was Jake Invented?
Control printing resources
- Resources (i.e. paper, toner, etc...) don't get wasted.
Because Jake requires you to type your password before you get
your output you can't just print documents and never come to
the printer to pick them up.
No Multiple Copies
- By default Jake ignores requests for multiple copies of a
document. This prevents our printers from becoming xerox
machines. You can enable multiple copies support if you wish.
Restrict printing access to certain groups of users
- The system allows you to control which groups of users get
printing priviledges.
Gather statistics on printer usage
- We keep track of every document which is printed through the
system. We know where, when, and by whom each job was printed.
This knowledge helps us plan our printer maintenance schedules
as well as our hardware upgrade and supply budgets.
