Ernesto Castañeda
is a Doctoral Candidate in the
Department of Sociology at Columbia University in the City of New York.
Ernesto received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley. He was a visiting scholar at the Sorbonne (2007) and the Institute of Political Studies in Paris Sciences Po (2007-2008). He works on international migration, transnational families, remittances, economic development, categorical inequality, and contentious politics, using mixed methods. He has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in New York City, Paris, Barcelona, and in many cities and communities in Algeria, Mexico, and Morocco. His dissertation compares Latinos in the U.S. and Muslims in Europe. It analyzes the relation between the contexts of reception, including the avenues for political voice available, and the political inclusion of immigrants and minorities. He is also interested in international students, Mexican professionals and entrepreneurs living abroad. Thank you to those arriving to this page after participating in this ongoing study. |
