WPDOS 5.1 and Windows CE handheld devices

WordPerfect for DOS 5.1 (not 6.x) can be installed on handheld devices that use the Windows CE operating system. A brief description of the procedure, as tested and reported by Bernie Conneely, is as follows:

First download and install all system updates from the vendor of your Windows CE handheld device.

Then, purchase and install an "80186 emulator" on your handheld system; Bernie Conneely recommends PocketDOS, which is easy to install and includes a DOS-compatible operating system already installed. After installing your 80186 emulator you may upload the WPDOS 5.1 files to your system.

This procedure is known to work on a NEC MobilePro handheld, and it should work successfully with other Windows CE systems, including palmsize devices that work with fold-out portable keyboards.

If you have any further details to add to this procedure, please send feedback.

WPDOS 5.1 and Psion handheld devices

WordPerfect for DOS 5.1 (not 6.x) can also be installed on Psion handheld devices that use the EPOC operating system. Tom Miller reports that the XTM 80186 emulator available from My Symbian.com successfully runs WPDOS 5.1 when DOS is installed in the emulator.
