The Washington Heights Community Service of New York State Psychiatric Institute provides inpatient and outpatient services for people with severe mental illness who live in the Washington Heights and Inwood communities in northern Manhattan. WHCS consists of a 22-bed inpatient unit and four certified outpatient programs.

All services are available in Spanish and English. There is no waiting list. Outpatient services include:

Client services and medication are available to all eligible clients regardless of ability to pay.

Referral Procedure

Inpatient referrals are made through the Presbyterian Hospital Psychiatric Emergency Room. If you live between 155th Street and 181st Street, call the Audubon Avenue Clinic at 928-8300. If you live between 181st Street and 225th Street, call the Inwood Mental Health Center at 942-8500. Ask for the intake worker.
