Along the parade route... 100 years ago there began a horrible,
bloody, senseless war in which 10 million human beings were killed, 20
million were wounded, and 8 million just plain disappeared. Nobody has ever
been able to figure out why or for what. Here on Mosholu Parkway, at Hull
and Marion Avenues, is a memorial to “those of the Bronx who served
and to those who fought and died”. Fittingly, it's not a happy
statue.
