Chesterbrook pump house 1953

Chesterbrook pump house 1953

The Chesterbrook pump house on Kirby Road in 1953, with land being cleared for the swimming club in the foreground. From a color slide taken by my father, which is somewhat deteriorated (pitted) with age. The pump house was home to the Trainor family whose son, Howard, was a classmate. Even in 5th grade he was well over six feet tall. In the back are seen some of the old houses. One of the two just right of the pumphouse is the one that used to have a cow in the front yard. Just above the black car is the Stalcup house, and then to the far right, Chesterbrook School. I've never been able to ascertain the provenance of the pump house, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was New Deal (e.g. WPA) creation. As of 28 September 2023, the pump house still stands exactly as it looked 70 years ago.
