The Luxembourg American Cemetery on the outskirts of Luxembourg City, 1964. Sergeant Major Deems made us promise to visit it. 5,073 service members are buried here, most of them killed in the Battle of the Bulge. General Patton, who Sgt.Maj. Deems served with in the Third Army, 1944-45, is buried here. Patton died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in December 1945 and asked to be buried with his men.
