The 97th General Hospital, about 4km east of our neighborhood, on the far side of the Hauptfriedhof. Originally a Luftwaffe hospital built in 1941, it served as a US Army hospital from 1945 to 2006. This is one of the very few photos I can find of this HUGE institution, which is now the US Consulate. It shows only a small piece of it; I'd like to find an aerial photo taken while it was still a hospital. I worked there 1960-61 every Thursday night at the hospital's internal closed-circuit AFN station. In those days the hallway cornice moldings (miles of them) were solid swastikas.
