The High Bridge over the Harlem River, the oldest of New York City's existing bridges, built 1839-1848 as an aqueduct connecting upper Manhattan with the Bronx and with the reservoirs further north. The metal part at left is new; a larger opening had to made for today's bigger ships. (Photo from Wikipedia)
