A major scholar of the Weishi school, he also provided financial
backing both to Yang Renshan's Jinling Sutra Printing House 金陵刻經處 and
Ouyang Jingwu's Chinese Buddhist Academy 之那內學院. He held a number of
political posts during his life and went to Taiwan in 1949, where he
had the lay Buddhist Li Bingnan as a student.

Published a book in 1923 on the Jews of Kaifeng: Kaifeng Yicileyejiao Kao [A Study of Judaism in Kaifeng] 開封一賜樂業教考. Published Shishi Yinian Lu [Record of Suspect Dates for Buddhist Monks] 釋氏疑年錄 in 1938, and Zhongguo fojiao shiji gailun [General Treatise on Historical Materials of Chinese Buddhism] 中國佛教史籍概論 in 1942.

Courtesy name Canhua 黃燦華, styled Fengxi 鳳兮
Author of some seminal books on Chinese Buddhist history and
doctrine through the 1930s, including his History of Chinese Buddhism
中國佛教史 first published in 1947. The only information I have
regarding his dates comes from Zhou Xia 周霞, Zhongguo jindai fojiao shixue mingjia pingshu 中國近代佛教史學名家評述, p. 96. Perhaps he disappeared during the Cultural Revolution? Article on his writings from Xianggang Fojiao.
