Friday, February 28, 5 50 Alive The benefit was A LOT OF fun, I didn't talk to too many folks or anything like that, but the music provided the vibes...Got there around 2am after seeing the last of the performances at Red Knuckles at Columbia - a monthly arts (performance, music, art, etc) party at Columbia. My friends are in a group called Freight Elevator Quartet which consists of Cello, Digeredoo, a DX-66 (?) drum machine and a buchla analogue modular synthesizer. The combination of instruments and electronics, all sort of improvised, is a lot of fun. I'll let the list know the next time they play live. Hardcore/gabber is such a fun genre. I knew I liked it, but I forgot how much fun it is. The reason why? NO ONE can dance and have pretense at 180+ (??) beats per minute (sorry skinner - in this message I'm talking about FAST tempo, dunno what to properly call it). The whole fist/hand banging to the beat and just everyone jumping all over the place is a return to people just dancing for the FUN of it - not to impress, not to be cool, and not to proove anything. Everyone LOOKS the fool and enjoys it!!! Its play - not work (although breaks are necessary heheh). Although the potential moshing/whatever is where attitudes can come in, this space wasn't large enough for there to be any real consequence. Don't know that much about moshing - but when people are in it to be aggressive and HURT others, that discriminates against those who can't necessarily hold their own. Nothing ABSOLUTLY wrong with that, but its also not very inclusive...
