Just a quick note about the NYC stop for this bill at Vinyl on Hudson street. First - get the pet peeves out. HOME sucks! ;) Yes, that's right, the line up for an hour or more is WRONG. Get it? I think I mentioned to Matthew Lehrer that I've figured out the difference between a rave and a party...At raves you are forced to endure insane conditions for long periods of time, before you even get to the door! At a party, you go and well, have fun! Okay...now that that's out...Scotto came out and had a speech, please don't get fucked up, please have fun, blah blah and then we managed to wait more. Walked in, Mark Broom was spinning, but I was too overly numb to be able to pay much attention. Autechre came up, and well - since I don't know tech, I can't say what equiptment they had. And since I don't as of yet own any albums proper (just like 3 or so singles on comps), I can't give you a set list... However it was cool to see the two concentrating like everything, and the music - AW! Crazy fuked up beats, insane rhymths, etc etc. I wish I was feeling better and in the mood to dance, as this was some crazy wacked out stuff - typical of the boys but given proper bass/volume, etc etc. I was listening to Black Dog Productions recently off of Bytes, and this felt very similar. Looked like one guy was reading samples off of tapes, disks, whatever and the other twiddling the knobs to give it that live feeling. And these beats - Autechre was the "alien" portion of the program. After a really really short set (half hour? Maybe a little more?) Jonah (STC) came on. His set felt more "live". He started off flowing ambient with environmental sounds - birds and the like. I decided to sit down in front of the setup on the stage (off to the side) as it started easier. More lush, he gradually built up to dance friendly. He was doing the same stuffthat Autechre did - bringing in rhymths, putting these n "play", twiddling knobs, bringing in more rhymths, etc etc. STC played substancially longer. I enjoyed his set, but it was less my "thing." However, I think the crowd got into this set more so than previous. In any case, a good time was had - and its amazing seeing people grooving to good music. You're all in for a treat tonight in Bmore! Only other peeve was the HOME crowd standing around away from those enjoying the time wondering what the fuss was in the corner. Lets see, who did I see? Matt Lehrer My friend Jake Ben Liz/Lia and friends anyone else? I think I caught out of the corner of my eye Yakko, but didn't get to say hi! (Wave) There were probably others that I just didn't see...let me know if you were there! okay...peace out, /Michael - sentinel
