Beautiful...November 2, 1996 Yet another good party from the Pure Children Advance-sale tickets meant there was NO line when I arrived, and I would imagine when anyone else arrived too. It was weird to be going to south bronx for a party. The space was good -- sort of like a combination of a warehouse and a loft -- as there were multiple floors connected by the stairs. The sound and lights were good and consistent throughout the long floor. A little upset that there was very little room to dance...too many folks sitting in the middle of the floor. Spent the night in the techno room...others will have to talk about the other rooms (jungle, ambient). As for the DJs - great pure techno for most of the night. This makes me happy as I find the groove much easier in techno than house. Dave Hollands Vapourspace...nice to also have some trance in the lineup :) Derrick May -- good but much prefered his set at Sir-cus in Montreal this summer. That was my first time hearing him, and it felt much smoother in transitions and sticking to funkier Detroit techno. LONG set though...but since it changed in style it didn't feel like enough of a journey. (to my ears anyway ;) ) From Catherine "Most notably was his breaking out Kraftwerks "numbers". He played the newer Purpose Maker (Jeff Mills) and a whole bunch of older detroit classics. A lot of white labels on the tables." Was Adam X or Damon Wild next? anyways nice HARD techno At some point heather hart came on. She was playing some great tracks. Really on tonight. I believe King Brit was on last...with some housier/pop-based techno. Is this progressive? As you can see I'm clueless when it comes to house ;) Remember running into the following folks: bobbles, danny/tranced, squishy ?, Sheldon Drake, YY, Jamie, Mike McSweeny, Keith, Mook, Chris M., Jerry Luna, Peter Jay, Chelle, peter?, jabber, and others of course :) PS: Although it was a really good party, I feel with the lineup...$25 was too much, especially when the PC have been speaking of doing low-damage events as part of their "charter" when they came on the NYC-scene last April with their first party, also called Beautiful. And in addition when it started out $20 and printed on the flyers with this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Hauben Teachers College Dept. of Communication Amateur Computerist Newsletter http://www.columbia.edu/~hauben/acn/ WWW Music Index http://www.columbia.edu/~hauben/music/ Netizens Netbook http://www.columbia.edu/~hauben/netbook/ Netizens Cyberstop
